Denise Murison Peters nee Muriso on May 4 2010, 08:27
My father Ian Overton Murison (b Cape Town South Africa 1910) was the son of Malcolm Rankin Murison and Alice Maude Beale. Malcolm's father was Captain Alexander Murison who ran the Union Castle shipping Company in Cape Town. I have heard many far fetched legends about how the three Brothers, sea fearing men all, ( Alexander, James and ??) came to the Cape Colony from Aberdeenshire in Scotland. Anyone have any connections?? I should love to hear from you.

I have a William Murison abt 1790 m Ann Falconer
I am presuming that the Alexander Falconer Murison is a grandchild but I cannot find the connection. Any help would be appreciated.
I found these monumental inscriptions as well which may mean something to someone. The previous position is also in my family line.

Hi,
My grandmother [my mom's mother] was a Murison and came from Aberlour, Scotland. She had 2 brothers who were enlisted with Scottish regiments during the first world war.
I am very interested and proud of my Scottish roots. I am just starting to do my family tree and would like to share information.

My maiden name was Murison. Although I live in Lanark my I have traced my ancestry to Maryton, Nr Montrose, Angus. I am a direct decendant of on Thomas Murison.

My late Grandfather always told me that the name was of Pictish origin and was derived from the name Muris'.

I live in Gibraltar, My father James came from Fraserburgh, afew Danish friends suggest that the surname is derived from Danish Murisen which means son of a brick maker.

The MURISON family name on this site emanates from Aberdeenshire. There are, of course, other Murison families in north-eastern Scotland and particularly in what was known as Banffshire. As I have said to Derek (the site owner), I'm away for a week or so and haven't the available time to go into details, so I'm going to give you all something to look at. Go to the National Archives of Scotland, NAS Catalogues, find your way to file RefNo. GD1/808 headed 'Murison (Morrison) Family, Troup, Banffshire and Canada'. Once you've found that and noted an Andrew MURISON on files GD1/808/1 and 2, I can tell you he married Mary Herdman in 1763 and had all his children registered as MORISON! One of Andrew's sons became Sir Alexander MORISON. Go to the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh and call up 'The Alexander Blackhall-Morison Collection'.

Have fun!

I am interested in the Murison family history , my paternal grandmother being one. Her father was Hugh Murison born in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, 10.8 1838. His father was Alexander Murison christened ,1 Nov,1795. I have been to St. Kanes cemetry in New Deer and think the gravestone there may be his, although I'm not 100% certain yet. I would be grateful for any help or contacts in tracing the family tree. Regards, Lyn

"Lynda is now placed on the murison.net family tree and has contributed greatly. Thanks!" DM
